Sustainable brands for a Euro brat summer

If you’ve found yourself wishing you were at Primavera dancing to Charlie XCX in some chunky boots and a crop top recently, then it might be a good time to start planning your brat summer outfits. I’ve rounded up some of my favourite brands to help you get Charlie’s grungy brat aesthetic for summer while protecting the ‘clean girl’ that is Mother Earth.

GANNI

Chunky boots and neon colours go hand-in-hand with the GANNI iconography. The sustainable Danish brand has developed a cult status for its edgy silhouettes and refined grungy style. Think bucket hats with puffy skirts and combat boots. My top brat picks are the Pink Washed Mini Bubble Skirt and Black Mesh Sheer Jersey Top.

Thinking MU

This Spanish label is one of my favourites for summer, and their vibrant colours and patterns never fail to take me back to Barcelona. While some of their styles are quite elegant and refined, they have a definite urban streak that dips into the brat style. Check out the Harriet Halter Top in green and white for a touch of the classic singlet with a nod to apple green. The Midi Pleated Pauline Skirt also has that sleek Y2K feel to take you from the beach to the bar.

Organic Basics

Another cult favourite, Organic Basics has been leading the charge on making stylish, sustainable underwear and basics for a Gen Z and millennial audience. Their pieces are functional while staying firmly on trend, with the Flex Foldover Shorts and Pointelle Cami taking top spots on the brat euro summer wish list.

Vivaia

You might have seen the Queen of Brat herself wearing this brand at Coachella earlier this year. What you might not know is that these shoes are by sustainable brand Vivaia, who make their wears from recycled plastic bottles. The ballet shoes might be a bit of a fad, but when they’re this cute and sustainably made, we can’t blame Charlie for donning these blush pink Sneakerinas.

Designers Remix

Based in Copenhagen, Designers Remix upcycles deadstock fabric and existing garments to create their collections. I could definitely picture Charlie in their sheer Iola Halter Top with some mini shorts and ripped tights, or styling their black knitted Taliana Dress.

Oh Seven Days

High up on my personal wish list is this gorgeous brand based in Turkey. At first thought, you might think they’re a bit too ‘clean girl’ with their drop-waist dresses and floaty silhouettes, but if you take a closer look, there are some iconic brat-worthy pieces in their collection. They’ve got some gorgeous bralette tops in different colours (my pick is the yellow or ‘lemon’ one), and some amazing blouses, like this black Demi Blouse which is practically dripping in elevated brat style. They’ve also got the cute little ruffled Elsie Top in the perfect brat green colour.
